Here are part of the lyrics:
“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty-handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance”
As schmaltzy as it sounds, there is truth in the words.
We visited my brother and his family recently, and they had recently gotten a new Wii game called “Just Dance” – what a blast! Everyone took a turn, and while there was definitely some skill involved, the participant – in order to score high- has to fully invest – fully invest in going all out and being willing to look like a fool. We laughed ’til we cried.
In retrospect, it seems like that’s true of life and especially relationships, we can really only fully feel them when we fully invest, when we are willing to be vulnerable, when we fully commit – regardless of how it might make us look silly or be exposed for our true selves.
Do you think that you have to fully commit? Does it ever scare you? Do you ever “just dance”? I hope you dance.
