Ours started pretty early as we (me, D & E) went out to set up and help out at the Race for Sparta 5K – a benefit for the White Station High School Booster Club. We had a great day for a race and a good turn-out for a 1st year event. A good time was had by all.
Then, we went to our church to help out at “Christ Feeds” – a missions project. Our church gets volunteers to pay $25 each, and they come and work for 1.5 hours filling bags with vitamins and food (soy, rice).
It’s a very cool effort, and our target this year is 200,000 meals for people in Zambia. This is the second time our church has done this – the first time we filled food bags to send to Haiti. We chose Zambia this time due to our connections with a church and school outside of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. It’s a very well-organized effort; a sort of assembly line of work. Each table gets into the spirit and everyone has a lot of fun. There was competition and much laughter. We hope that these folks will be filled both physically (people in Zambia die everyday of starvation; it’s tragic) and spiritually. The service fills the bags, and the money pays for the shipping containers. It’s really a great set-up. If any of our laughter drifted into those bags, there will be much joy in Zambia. It was really amazing.
Many people working together, with love, can do amazing things.
How are you amazing? What will you share of yourself today?
